Just some ramblings to avoid doing what I need to do
Well I just had a little bit of time so I thought I would give a little bit of an update. Sorry but it won't include photos...I'm lazy today. lol. Yesterday, Erin and I decided to skip our intercambio (exchange) where we talking with other international students and also chileans. It is a program put on by the university, but its way disorganized and the groups are huge and I just feel like I get more time to speak when I am with my family and their friends. But I think I will try to go again maybe next week. So instead, we went down to the downtown area of Viña, got our student id metro passes and had a lovely time chatting with the guys who were working there. It was funny too, when we were waiting to go into the office, ya know its like one of those take and number and wait your turn type of places. This random guy came and sat down next to me and starting speaking in spanish, but in an odd accent. But erin and I went with it, and then he figured out we knew english. He was from Brasil and was on vacation here, and wanted to see if we would go out with him. Erin thought he was harmless, but my guard was up a little bit. lol. Ive heard a little bit of bad things about Brasileños and how dangerous it can be for americans there in certain places. It was interesting though, I knew right away that he wasn't chileno, I mean not only the portugese accent, but chilenos aren't that forward and wouldn't just come up to us like that in the metro. And it all clicked once I figured out he was from Brasil (spanish way to spell Brazil). So after that, we went to lunch in a cute little place downtown. I felt stupid that I sneakily had to look in my dictionary to figure out what everything meant on the menu, but I don't think too many saw me! :) After that, we attempted to go to the grocery store to buy ingedientes to make our family cookies, but we soon realized we did not know the spanish equivalent of the words. So instead we left and went got ice cream, which is more like gelato here. I had like lemon merengue pie in ice cream form, SO good. haha.
We got home last night and Pili helped us figure out what we needed for the cookies and the right amount, and then we went back to the store with Maite and Javi. It was such a fun walk and time to talk. I am learning that Javi is like exactly me, which is so great! :)
Today was just another day of classes, and I have all kinds of homework to do. I have a project to do for next tuesday, fun times! Yes that is sarcasm! It was cool though, today we went home for lunch with the family and Maite said that when I talk in long sentences I sound chilean. How rad is that! It pretty much just made my day! :)
In like 15min we are going to go see javi's university, then go downtown to Viña and try and find me boots and a gift for Marcello. Tonight we are going to go have a drink with Marcello for his birthday tomorrow. I am way excited to hang out with him, its always a fun time! :) And this will be our first time going out at night in Viña, so it should be a great time.
Tomorrow I have a an ISA excursion to Pablo Neruda's house and to a town that is known for its ceramics and hand made goods. I am sure I will be looking for wonderful things to bring home for you all there. :) And then once we get home tomorrow night we are having the family party for Marcello, SO excited for that! I love when the whole family gets together. And there is always such wonderful food, that I usually can eat! haha
And then on Sunday, I have another excursion to the northern beaches, they are like one or two hours away. And I think we get the chance to ride a horse on the beach, which of course I am doing! :)
The only problem with this weekend (fin de semana) is that it is supposed to rain. But hopefully not too much so it won't cancel the trip. I will take tons of photos and tell you all about it next week when I have time to sit down and write again! I am actually supposed to be doing my homework right now, so you all should privileged that you come before my homework. Or maybe its just procrastination... however you want to look at it. :)
Chao todo!
Yo extraño todo de mi familia y mis amigos... muchos muchos! (I miss all of my family and friends)
Britt
