La primera semana de clases!
Last week was my first week of classes. I have four, but I only had to go to three because there was yet another holiday last week. But I have to say that so far I have had some difficulty understanding people here in Chile, but it wasn't until I set foot into my classes last week that I pretty much had a panic attack. My first class was literature from spain, and that professor spoke so freaking fast, and she didn't hand out a syllabus so I was trying to furiously write down all that she was telling me (very difficult because it was the names of pieces of literature) and try to understand all that she was saying. She wrote nothing down on the board. And the class only lasted that day for like 15 min, yes I nearly had a heart attack my first day. The second class was a little better, but not much. The professor was so much nicer, but she she was talking all philosophically, and I have trouble with thinking in basic spanish, lets not get into philosophy please. Oh and she talked with her hand over her mouth, and she knows she has foreign students in her class! Ay! It drove me nuts, I felt like I was almost falling out of my seat from leaning over trying to hear and understand her. And on top of all that, both of the classrooms are in the basement of two different building, but its like there is no insulation or something to block out unwanted noise. Because I hear all the people talking and walking outside, and then also the vents for the air. It was pretty miserable and like I said I thoroughly freaked out. BUT, I am going to be positive and optimistic and hope that it gets easier.
My class the next day, was written spanish with a professor from my summer program, my culture professor. Her name is Virna. And I had no idea she was teaching this class, but it was such a comfort to see her walk through the door. Because I knew I would understand her, and I just felt so comfortable in her classroom, no stress it was great. Her class is going to involve a ton of writing, so its going to entail a whole lot of BS from me, so hopefully I can pull through.
After just those two days, it was so nice to have friday off. I needed to recover from the headache I got from trying to concentrate and focus so hard the days before.
Tomorrow (monday) is the start of my second week of classes, and I am just hoping I make it through alive. And hoping it goes a little better. I will keep you all posted!
