El fin de semana con "trabajo" en Casablanca

Since I am trying to catch up on posts, these all might be a little out of order. So actually the theme of this post actually happened before the last post about cooking class of the desserts.

On to this post! The weekend of the 3-4 of october, I went to Casablanca to help Marcelo make some cake stands for Pili's catering business. The thursday before this weekend, I had gone with him to buy the materials at as store thats like home depot here. So by the time the weekend came around, Marcelo had already made the cake stands and all we had to do was paint them and make them all pretty. We decided to make them look a little distressed, old fashioned, and give them that shabby chic look. We probably could have gotten all the work done in one day, but Marcelo's idea of work is a lot different than mine. So the first night, we worked like a good solid hour or two and then he called it quits for a relaxing evening of movies. We had to reward ourselves for all that long and hard work right? haha

But the next day (sunday) we actually did the antiquing look to the cake stands. I had never done this before, so it was super fun to try. I can't wait to get home and go thrift store shopping and find furniture to try it on by myself! But the work ethic today was a little bit better than the day before, we actually stayed focused almost the whole time! Well minus our ridiculous bickering if the design of fruit we were using was a strawberry or a raspberry.

I unfortunately lost this battle in the end, yeah I was a little huffy about it, since we all know I don't like to lose.

But in the end, the weekend was quite the success. We got our work done and had time to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather in Casablanca. It's always nice for me too because I get my dog fix while I'm there. I forget how much more calm I am when there are animals around, it is way nice.

These are the finished products! In the end we made 10. These photos look a little funny because the cake stands are stacked on top of one another, but you get the main idea.

I was really happy with how they turned out, and when we showed Pili later on in the week when they were completely dry, she loved them too! And actually this today (October 16, 2009) Pili has an event and is using them for the first time. I am excited to see how they look, with the food and flowers and linens.

I hope there are more craft projects in the future. They are fun to do! But actually I think the next project is to help Marcelo finish the garden project in Casablanca, I get to go and pick out the pretty flowers and plant them around the ponds he made! Super excited! Pictures will be on the way when that happens too! :)

Those are nice looking stands! We'll have to trade some wood finishing strategies when you get back. :-) Tell Marcello nice job. :-) Are the flowers hand painted or did you use some kind of pattern? Those are skills I don't own.

Britt dancing Salsa in Starbucks? We need to Utube that. LoL Now that is funny to visualize. LoL The lady you met sounds quite interested in her travels. :-)
