El día de los niños y los vecinos locos!

So I think where ever I go crazy neighbors must just follow me. First it was the naked neighbors and porno guy next door with Miss Hannah, and in Chile I have neighbors that are senile and are trying to kill each other. So Pili had told me that the family doesn't talk with their neighbors right next to the house (its and old man and woman) because they were a little crazy. But I really didn't think anything of it because I never saw them or heard anything to bad about them. But last night began my change in sentiment. Last night as we were coming home from some place, can't remember where, I peered up into the window of the neighbors house and saw the old man just staring at me. He looked like he was praying, but no, his eyes were like needles piercing right through me. Yeah I had the heebie jeebies like crazy! And right before this, we were all talking about scary stories in the car. And then of course I had to look up and see this creepy guy. So yeah after that, I didn't think much of it. We had a night of scary movies last night, so I spent the majority of time with my hands covering my face and watching the movie in between my fingers, and almost breaking off the arms of mis hermanos (my brothers).

So yeah, the old man in the window. One incident, no big deal right? WELL, this morning after the whole family had desayuno (breakfast) together, I went up to my room to make my bed and get ready for the day. So I opened my curtains like always, and I peered out into the sunshine and the nice day, and I saw the crazy old man! BUT he wasn't acting normal AT ALL! Only photos can describe his odd behavior.

So after a night of watching scary movies, and not sleeping well because I'm sure I had some crazy ass dreams. THAT is what I had to see. Of course the whole family was up in my room, and laughing at me because I was just waiting for the old man to turn around and do some other crazy ass thing. Luckily, after a while, he just smoothly pulled aside the curtains and left the window without ever looking out. But seriously, it was almost a little too much for me to handle after the night before.

However, there is more to this story. After I saw this all and had my freak out expecting him to turn around and jump out with no eyes or something, Pili told me a new story of what happened with the this couple the day before. I guess TuTi left to make a delivery or something early in the morning and the carabineros (police) were at the door. I guess the old woman (the woman neighbor), either she called the police or something heard her scream and called the police. But the old man neighbor had told her he was going to kill her and I guess he almost tried and she nearly escaped. She after that in the morning, she spent the rest of the day out in the garden of her house, too scared to go back in. And after I saw the creepy old man this morning backwards in the window, I saw the woman in the garden sitting there. And I kept checking throughout the morning, and she still remained outside. And when we left today to go have lunch in Casablanca with the whole family, she was still outside but walking up and down the street. It is so odd.

It's really hard to see in that photo, but its the old woman in her garden. I couldn't get a better photo of her.

But besides that all happening this morning, it was a special day today in Chile! It was el día de los niños (the day of the children). I really don't know the reason for the day, but it was still fun. I think its just to celebrate the children... but poor Pili she had to celebrate eight kids this year. And she was so sweet, she made us a little breakfast and gave us all a little gift.

Pili gave Erin and I a piece of chocolate. Its in the two photos above. In the first, its on the right and in the second it shows the shape a little better. It was amazing by the way, not to rub it in or anything. And the in the package on the left in the first photo was a magnet, that you can see in the photo on the left. It was so sweet of her to get us something, and I totally appreciated it. She is such a wonderful person. The whole family is so great and generous to Erin and I.

I almost forgot to add that on the way to go to Casablanca for lunch, we had to stop off and pick up the empanadas. While Pili went into the store, Erin, Maite and I waited in the car. We had the music on, and we didn't know until Pili got back that the lights had been left on too, so the car died when we tried to start it. It happened so fast too, we only waited for Pili for like 10 minutes. So Maite, Erin and I had to get out and push the car to get it to start again. And once getting to Casablanca and the house of the grandparents the car had more problems and wouldn't start at all. I wish I had photos because it was absolutely hilarious watching all the kids push the car and run with it trying to get it to start. Back and forth we all did this for like 15 minutes until everyone was winded and realized nothing was going to make the car start. After changing battery's with another car, we got Pili's car to start (Pili has to go buy a new battery tomorrow), and we couldn't turn the car off because it would die. So we immediately left, I think that was the fastest goodbye I have seen any chilean give. It was definitely a very interesting day. But with all the little silly/odd/scary things that happened, I still had a great day because the sun was shining with no clouds in the sky and I got to spend it with great people.

Tomorrow starts the grind back to routine and school. Everyone wish me luck! I think I am going to need it!

Hi Britt!,
The picture of that neighbor in the window was creepy kind of like an Edgar Allen Poe Story. Very Strange. I'm glad everything is ok. :-) Your Chileno family is so nice. I'm sure you and Erin have brought warmth to their family too! That was so funny imagining you guys pushing Pili's car. LoL That gave me a visual of an old Keystone Cops movie. LoL

I hope school is going a little smoother.

Love ya,
Dad
