Segunda clase de Concina
I had my second cooking class with Pili this week (wednesday september 2, 2009). We made sopaipillas and pebre. It was super fun, and it didn't seem too difficult, and its something I think everyone back home is going to enjoy! Everyone here in Chile loves to eat sopaipillas with whatever topping on cold rainy days. So my mum here Pili, is always having to make sopaipillas for all her clients on rainy days. It's kind of cool to know what to expect on those days, and its almost like I am a true chilean on those days because I always know what we are going to have. It definitely feels more than just sharing a tradition. Its hard to explain, but yeah its pretty neat.
So below are some photos of my cooking adventure. I not only decided to write down all the recipes I am going to collect, but I think I want to take photos to not only remember the experience but also to remember each step! Photos make it easier sometimes.
Sopaipillas first:
This is Pili working hard and showing us what to do. She is a great teacher!
Erin slipped into this one right when I was taking the photo. Thanks Er.
They were all laughing at how short I am, and how I need to stand on my tip toes to work on their counters
The dough for the sopaipas (this is the flaite way to say sopaipillas) as we are starting to cut it out into individual pieces.
The sopaipillas on the tray waiting to be fried! So bad for you, but oh so delicious! Trust me there is no way you can resist these things!
Watching the first batch fry!
Fresh out of the pan, waiting for them to cool as we cook up lots more!
The pebre:
These are the main ingredients in pebre, and its all so fresh. I could eat this stuff everyday, SO good!
The finished product. I was so excited to eat it!
Gabriel tried them first. Even though this kid will eat just about anything (the reason he was our guinea pig), his opinion was still important since he loves to eat!
Thankfully he approved! After this we all sat down to eat sopaipillas and pebre... we all want to eat them all because they are so delicious!
It's a little funny because as I write this, it is another rainy chilly day. So I have a feeling its going to be more sopaipillas today as well! Can't wait to share the recipe and make them for you all as well! :)
This coming week our cooking class is going to be how to make mango sour and pisco sour because the 12th of september is Ignacio's birthday so of course we need to celebrate it with some drinks. if only Ignacio could share in the experience as well. He is going to be 15! He is such a sweet kid. He always makes sure I am speaking correctly in spanish, and if not he has no qualms to correct me. It's great, sometimes you need someone like that. :)

Hi Britt!
It looks yummy, can we have the recipe for the salsa verde if that's what you're making here? Please pretty please :)
My e-mail address is LateApexer313@yahoo.com or you can post it, I am sure I am not the only one who wants it :)
Thank you,
Cherie
