Completos

So as I am sharing with you all my cooking experiences here in Chile, I decided I should share a recipe that is very traditional to chile. It's like their version of fast food here. It is called the "completo." It is a type of food I don't eat, but all extranjeros (foreigners) tell me they are really good, and so do all the chileans of course.

This is what they look like:

So yes they are only a hot dog... but apparently the most delicious hot dog! So for this reason I have decided to devote a post on my blog to them. This past Saturday (5 de septiembre 2009), Constanza made completos for the family as we watched the soccer game. And she taught Erin and I the process to make the best completo... and Erin told me Constanza made THE best completo.

Here is the recipe/procedure:
Ingredients:

hot dogs
buns
mayonaise
tomatoes
avocado
ketchup/catsup
mustard (optional)

Procedure:

1. cook the hot dogs
2. slice the tomatoes
3. mash up an avocado

To prepare the bun:
1. first spread a little mayonaise on the bun
2. then put the hot dog on the bun
3. Next scoop on a layer of tomatoes (you put them on now so they won't fall out - the completo in the picture has the order all wrong, so don't follow that.)
4. spread a layer of avocado over the tomatoes (Constanza did it with a fork, that might be the easiest way)
5. Next on the top goes a strip of mayonaise, ketchup, and mustard if desired

Then you eat!

I am sure you could add more ingredients to it if you wanted. I know I have seen onions on a completo in one place. But yeah this is the traditional fast food of Chile. They also have them in Argentina, but I guess they have a different name, and maybe even different ingredients. If I find out more I will of course share with you all.

I hope everyone tries them, and if you do please let me know what you think! :)

Enjoy!
